Year Founded: 1893


O.M. Kelly, who served as postmaster, established the town in 1877. In 1891, Miss Carrie Hall reigned as the belle of the town and it was then named Rio Carrabelle in her honor. The ” Rio ” was later dropped. The city was incorporated on May 11, 1893.
