Year Founded: 1901


Originally known as Orange, Chipley was renamed in honor of Colonel W.D. Chipley, the railroad president who helped build the railroad across northern Florida. Agriculture was the mainstay for Chipley until recently. State and county government, as well as manufacturing, have begun to be major contributors to the economy. Chipley is the county seat.
