A campaign commemorating Florida's diverse cities.
Brought to you by the Florida League of Cities.
Leonard Destin, Sr., who left the New England coast to settle on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico, founded the Village of Destin in the 1800s. Destin was mapped and a fishing industry was established. After years of debate and several unsuccessful votes by the people of Destin, the “World’s Luckiest Fishing Village” was incorporated as a city in November 1984. The inaugural seven-member council and titular mayor took office in January 1985.
