History

In 1946, Gordon Parker, a real estate investor, bought 3.5 miles of beachfront property for $64,000 and named it after the Gulf of Mexico on which it stands. Today, each lot is worth more than $64,000. The first mayor was Charlie Parker, Gordon’s son.
