A campaign commemorating Florida's diverse cities.
Brought to you by the Florida League of Cities.
Jefferson County was named for Thomas Jefferson. The county seat, Monticello, was named for Jefferson’s historic Virginia home. The county and city were established January 20, 1827, while Florida was still a “territory.” Near here stood the Spanish mission of La Concepcion de Ayabuli. Monticello is the only municipality in the county and the county seat.
